Good brakes are the most important safety feature on your Porsche, as they allow you to reduce your speed or stop almost instantly. Over time parts can wear and become damaged. Any braking system problem can lead to an accident, so it’s important to visit us at Porsche Beachwood ASAP and have the problem investigated. These are a few signs your braking system is in trouble.

3 Signs You Need To Get Your Brakes Serviced_Porsche Beachwood

Pulling to One Side

The braking system in your Porsche works by applying friction to each wheel rotor, which causes the rotors to slow and stop. Each wheel has a brake caliper that squeezes against both sides of the rotor. This should happen simultaneously on all wheels. If your car moves towards one side when you hit the brake pedal, the brake on one of the wheels has a problem.

Two common causes of a brake not engaging are a damaged brake caliper or a lack of brake fluid. The brake fluid generates the hydraulic pressure for the brake caliper to close. A blocked hose or a brake fluid leak will prevent the affected caliper from engaging. A damaged caliper won’t close on the rotor, preventing the rotor from stopping. We’ll examine the affected wheel to find and fix the problem.

Soft Brake Pedal

The braking system depends on high pressure to work effectively. You can feel this pressure when you step on the pedal, as you’ll feel resistance. This resistance grows as you exert more pressure on the pedal. If you step on the pedal and it provides little resistance, there’s a problem in the brake system.

Damage to the hoses, lines, or other braking system components can result in a brake fluid leak. As the system loses fluid, the pressure will drop. A lower pressure slows the braking system’s response and increases the time to brake. If your pedal feels soft or spongy, call us right away so our experts can find and repair the cause of the problem.

Worn Brake Pads

A brake pad fits into each caliper, and these pads generate friction against the rotors. The friction material wears down slightly each time you hit the brake pedal. A new brake pad has a 1/2″ thick friction material cover, and once it reaches 1/4″ thickness, it’s time to replace the pads. Your brake pad wear light on the dash will illuminate as a warning.

The pads also provide a less subtle warning. Worn pads produce a high-pitched screeching sound when they need replacement. Call our service department, and our technicians will quickly install new pads to fix the problem.
