As a Porsche driver, it’s wise to use the recommended N-rated tires for your particular model. These superior tires are exceptionally safe to drive upon, but even the finest tires require proper upkeep to remain structurally sound. One such upkeep procedure is to check tire pressure at least once a month. Here are the steps for checking your tires, and you can always visit your local Porsche dealer for a demonstration.

How to Check the Tire Pressure on Your Porsche

Begin When Your Tires Are Cold

The considerable friction generated while driving creates a lot of heat inside a tire. This heat expands the air, temporarily boosting the tire’s pressure.

To ensure an accurate reading, only measure the pressure of your tires when they’re cold. You’ll have to wait at least three hours after driving for your tires to fully cool down. The easiest time of day for it is usually first thing in the morning.

Remove and Secure the Valve Cap

Each tire has an air valve stem which you’ll see poking through a hole in the wheel’s rim. Twist the cap of the valve off and secure it somewhere safe. There will often be a slight hiss of air when you take off the cap.

Apply a Tire Pressure Gauge to the Valve

Use a manual or digital tire pressure gauge to measure the tire pressure. Tire gauges are relatively simple tools that you can find at any gas station or dealership. Press the nozzle of the gauge to the valve and note the reading on the gauge’s dial or screen.

Tire pressure is measured in pounds per square inch (PSI). Porsche vehicles often require slightly higher tire pressure than other vehicles. The recommended figure as a rule of thumb is 39 PSI for the rear wheels and 34 PSI for the front wheels. But check your owner’s manual to make sure of the optimal PSI for your Porsche model.

Adjust Air As Required

If your tire pressure’s too high or too low, you’ll need to adjust the pressure. You can release air by pressing the raised dot on the rear of your tire pressure gauge against the valve’s nozzle.

Add Air at Your Local Porsche Dealership

You can add air with either a portable tire inflator or air compressor at your local dealership. Make any changes in small increments, stopping to measure often, until it’s just right.

Put the Valve Cap Back On

Once the tire’s PSI is at the correct level, replace the valve cap. Then move on to the next tire. You can see that it’s a relatively simple process and after a few months, checking your tire pressure will become second nature.
